Local culture and perspectives are communicated through language. Cultural identity and diversity are concepts that establish social specificity. Although "universal" culture is defined as a compromise in order to acknowledge the existence of the others, social movements aimed at preserving and revitalizing indigenous wisdom and languages continue to exist. Bahasa Indonesia bagi Pembelajar Asing (BIPA, Indonesian language for foreigners) is a government program intended at these goals.
