SEAT ORNAMENTS AS THE REPRESENTATION OF SANG HYANG WIDHI WASHA IN PELINGGIH PADMASANA BUILDING

Padmasana is pelinggih building which is located in mandala main area (the holiestarea) at the temple building complex. The building which is in a temple has distinct characteristics based on its function. The character appears as the shape of the building and its accompanying ornaments. Padmasana building is pelinggih building which is sacred as it is considered as the building that became stana of Sang Hyang Widhi Washa. It is characterized by the seat ornaments which are placed on the very top of the building. Hindus believe that when religious events are held, Sang Hyang Widhi Washa attends and sits in the seat. Seat as the entity of secular, material, is invented by human beings to become a symbol of the Divinity in the building of this pelinggih. Ornaments that exist in the buildings of the temple were taken from the things of the earth in the creation of Sang Hyang Widhi Washa or God Almighty.In addition, the seat ornaments in padmasana building are different with other ornaments, as another ornament has a distinct identity, the form which is found in the teachings of Hinduism such as gods, as well as Hindu mythological creatures. The method that is used in this research is descriptive analysis with qualitative approach. This study aims to describe how aseat can represent Sang Hyang Widhi Washa and theinfluences of culturaldevelopment that affectthe ornamental designs of padmasana building at the time.
